Dettifoss
The Dettifoss is a waterfall located in the Myvatn area of North Central Iceland. It is situated in the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river which flows from glaciers. It is reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe having a flow variously estimated at between 200 and 500 cubic metres of water per second depending on the season and the summer ice melt. The falls are 100 m wide with a drop of 44 m.
Near to Dettifoss there is another interesting waterfall, the Selfoss.
At a distance of about 15 km the north, Jökulsárgljúfur National Park is to be found.
